Joint Replacement

The joints are a silent, but important part of everyday life. They facilitate the most basic of motions, ideally without pain or stiffness. But the reality for millions of Americans is that physical injuries, degenerative disease, or years of repetitious movements cause chronic joint pain and discomfort. When the joints are not healthy, they can severely restrict the functions of daily life. Fortunately, Orthopedists can intervene to help preserve or replace affected joints and help patients return to pain-free activity. Joint preservation is the preferred method of treatment when available. This conservative approach involves a surgery to repair a damaged joint by eliminating diseased or damaged portions and sometimes grafting in new bone and soft tissues. However, many patients are not candidates for joint preservation and must instead undergo total or partial joint replacement.

Sports Orthopedics

Sports physicals serve as a foundation for safety and health during physical activity. By getting periodic sports physicals – especially before beginning a new sport or fitness routine – you can verify that you are in good health and assess your overall fitness level. Sports physicals are also helpful for identifying underlying conditions that could serve as a predisposition to injury. That sports physicals are recommended for people of all ages – not just kids and teens? Whether you are a professional athlete or simply looking to start a new fitness routine, you need to be cleared for physical activity by a medical professional. But even if you are approved for sports after your appointment, it is important to listen to your body for cues of exhaustion, overuse or dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids before, during and after activity, and be sure to wear safety equipment at all times to avoid a health emergency.

Trauma

Fractures occur every day among people of all ages. In most cases, bones naturally heal on their own with little or no medical intervention. But some breaks require ongoing fracture care and oversight from an Orthopedist. Whether a patient has stress fractures caused by overuse or multiple breaks caused by a car accident, an Orthopedic Surgeon can use a number of techniques to restore broken bones as close to their original condition as possible. That there are steps you can take to lower your risk of suffering a fracture? Even the most active people can prevent bone injuries by eating a calcium-rich diet and adopting a strength training regimen that will build stronger bones. Athletes should take additional care to safeguard themselves against sports-related traumas by wearing the appropriate protective gear and being careful to avoid overuse.

Arthroscopy

An Arthroscopy is a diagnostic procedure used to evaluate the health of problem joints – particularly those in the knees, shoulders, wrists, hips, and back. The procedure uses an Arthroscope, which is an Endoscopic device complete with a camera and light at the end. Inside the joint, the Arthroscope transmits images of the joint to a viewing screen for your surgeon’s examination. These images are helpful in identifying and even helping conditions like a torn rotator cuff, a dislocation, or joint inflammation. Arthroscopy can be a convenient alternative to open joint surgery? Not only is an Arthroscopy less invasive than surgery, it is also more affordable on average. Many patients also enjoy the shorter recovery time and lower risk of complications associated with arthroscopies.
